Karma as suspected poacher is trampled by elephants then eaten by lions

The incident happened when four suspected poachers who entered South Africa's Kruger National Park to poach a Rhino but only four of them returned from the park.

According to a park spokesman, rangers were alerted after the victim's alleged accomplices told his family that he had been crushed to death by an elephant. Hlathi said the man's accomplices claimed to have carried his body to a road before leaving the park.

Kruger Park Rangers began searching for the man's body on Tuesday evening, sending a helicopter to scan the area known as Crocodile Bridge, but had no luck finding him.

Park officials formed a search party to find the man's remains, however, only a skull was found. The team could only find the dead man's head and his pair of trousers.

"It is a sorry site to see daughters, mourning the loss of their father, in such a state", said Phillips offering his condolences for the dead man.

"The police received information that some men had gone poaching in the KNP on 01 April 2019, when suddenly an elephant attacked and killed one of them".

The victim's four alleged accomplices are now in custody and will "appear in court in due course", the park service added.

A search party scoured the area in search of his remains and eventually made the gruesome find.

But with no luck the police officers in the case re-interviewed the captured poachers to try and get more detail as to where the elephant attacked and killed their friend.

Kruger National Park hopes this incident shows everyone the dangers that can accompany poaching and entering the park illegally for any reason.

The four other poachers have been arrested and will appear in court soon.

It's a prime target of rhino poachers, and 446 of 502 poaching arrests made in South Africa a year ago were made in Kruger National Park.

The African black rhino is considered critically endangered, especially since its population plummeted from about 65,000 in 1970 to 2,400 in 1995, according to Kruger National Park.

Three men, aged between 26 and 35, were arrested in the KaMhlushwa and Komatipoort precincts, police said in a statement.
