Google Releases Android Q Beta 1

Concluding months of rumours and speculations, search giant Google has finally unveiled Android Q, the company's next major Android OS version. In short, there's a lot going on here, but it's primarily being targeted at developers rather than end users.

As for what's coming in the future, Android Q also has the foldable tech into consideration.

Google has a detailed explanation of what features are contained in Android Q thus far in its blog post announcing the beta availability. This has been a problem because advertisers would use hardware IDs like your phones IMEI or MAC address to target ads. Permissions as a whole have also been updated with greater control, including things like shared files, photos, etc.

The malware's command and control server runs an off-the-shelf install of Parse Server, an open source version of the Parse Backend mobile app infrastructure software.

Settings panels. Apps will be able to show key system settings like internet connectivity, NFC, and audio volume via a new Settings panel that slides in over the app. The 12 different apps identified by the firm all use a data-scraping software development kit (SDK) and in total they have been downloaded 111m times. So if you are using a ride share app you can let it track your location while it's in use, but forbid the app from learning your location data when not. New restrictions have been implemented on what activities can be launched in the background without user interaction, too. This will allow users to navigate from one app to the other in a jiffy.

OTA of Android Q are available and can be downloaded via the Android Beta Program as well as through the downloadable system images. And it will offer a new Wi-Fi performance mode for when low latency is important, such as during real-time gaming, voice calls, and the like. Android Q will support native monochrome shooting in RAW format. It also adds specific flows for implicit and explicit authentication.

You'll need to enroll with Google to get Q updates onto your Pixel. Android Q places a focus on privacy, like with its new location data setting that'll let you choose whether an app can access your location all the time, only while the app is in use, or deny location access completely. This summer the Google Play store will require all apps to have 64-bit support.
