Captain Marvel Box Office Opens to Year-Best $153 Million

Captain Marvel experienced a box office bonanza at the weekend, netting $153m (£117m) in North America and a massive $455m (£348m) worldwide. As for its performance in the MCU, Captain Marvel had the seventh biggest opening weekend and is the second-highest grossing standalone superhero movie behind Black Panther.

Captain Marvel broke box office records over the weekend as it soared to a $153 million debut.

At least a dozen vfx companies worked on the Disney/Marvel picture: Industrial Light & Magic, Trixter, Framestore, Animal Logic, Lola Visual Effects, Scanline VFX, Rising Sun Pictures, Luma Pictures, Digital Domain, Rise, Cantina, and SSVFX. 9 of the top 10 Captain Marvel locations in China were IMAX theatres.

But what makes Captain Marvel so captivating is that she's all-around strong.

It has been revealed that Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo directed the mid-credits scene in Captain Marvel.

Before the film began, the Marvel fans were surprised by Captain Marvel herself, as Brie Larson entered the theater to surprise and thanks the fans for seeing her movie.

If "Captain Marvel" follows "Rogue One's" trajectory, it will also become the first female-led superhero movie to cross the billion-dollar mark in global gross. Captain Marvel also made its debut at 7th overall in opening weekends for all Marvel movies.

Internationally, Captain Marvel has grossed an estimated $302 million - meaning it could rake in an estimated total of $455m globally. Living on Earth in 1995, she keeps having recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers.

"I know it's exciting and fun to be like, 'Will it sink or will it float?' 'What's going to happen?' 'Can women exist in the world?' 'We're not sure yet!' But women have been opening movies since the silent era", Larson told The Hollywood Reporter.
