Baseball fan stunningly outsmarts insiders in Bryce Harper sweepstakes

Jim Bowden of ESPN reported earlier this week that "there are indeed "mystery team (s)' in on Bryce Harper that the public is not aware of" along with the known pursuers: the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox, San Diego Padres and maybe Washington Nationals".

"He's got more speed than me, man", Judge said, smiling. "Anytime you can add an MVP to a team, it's going to make them better", the 26-year-old said.

Despite his desire to see Harper in pinstripes, the Yankees have not shown any interest in landing the former MVP, and although they have been linked to Manny Machado as well, the Yankees don't see engaged in negotiations to land him either.

Just before getting honored at the Thurman Munson Awards in Manhattan on Tuesday evening, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said any similar scenario involving the two outfielders was now an unrealistic one. Harper, one of the most accomplished free agents in Major League Baseball history, still has not found a home with less than a week until pitchers and catchers report for spring training. If he wants to set records, the biggest deal in baseball history was Giancarlo Stanton's $325 million extension, and Zack Greinke has the highest annual average value ever at more than $34 million. The team's primary designated hitter, he also spent 37 games playing right field last season. Harper and Machado seem likely to sign for less than expected at the start of the winter, which could have teams re-considering whether to try to jump back into the fray.

"Obviously [Harper] is a great player".

At the moment, many believe the Phillies are the clear-cut favorites to land Harper since they appear to be a good fit, and have the kind of money he's looking to earn in a hefty contract. "Obviously things happen that force Brian and his staff to pivot on certain things. But I think it's safe to assume that we're going to spring training with the team that we expect to have". There have been rumors that the offer might've increased during the offseason, and the outfielder reportedly met with team owner Ted Lerner for a few hours before Christmas.

As for Judge's message through TMZ to Harper, Machado and other remaining free agents? "So, it just all depends on where he wants to go".
