Tennis Preview - Australian Open

The first Grand Slam of 2019 sees world number one Novak Djokovic aiming for his third consecutive slam title, and seventh Australian Open.

Two-time Wimbledon victor Andy Murray has targeted next summer's grass court championship in London as his stage to step away from tennis but the Scot's surgeon says that his hip injury may prohibit him from making it that far.

When asked for his views on Andy Murray's sudden retirement announcement, the 17 times Grand Slam victor said that it is "bad news". We played lots of epic matches in the professional circuit.

"He has put that through in the way he has voiced his opinions and the way he has tackled some questions and issues that have arisen and I think everybody has always been very appreciative of him".

"Andy has tried really hard and explored every option that has any real possibility of being helpful", he said.

Murray, the first top male player to take on a female coach in Amelie Mauresmo, questioned Sharapova's excuse that she was taking the drug for a heart condition and also criticised her racquet sponsor Head for standing by her after she was caught.

Long-time rival Nadal, who has won 17 of his 24 meetings with Murray, became the latest to hail the outgoing three-time grand slam champion. "I watched basically the entire game a couple years ago", Federer said.

"It's kind of sad to know that he might play his last Australian Open but I do wish him all the best". "He can play well in fast courts, and that's what it's going to be a little bit here as well", added the world number three, who has won all six previous encounters against Istomin. He won everything he wanted to win. We will miss him.

He broke down in tears as he confirmed the Australian Open would be his last, but was hopeful he'd be able to end his career in front of his home crowd at Wimbledon in July. Anybody would substitute their career with his.

Murray has interests away from the court and a young family, but admitted: "Once I'd started thinking about stopping, all of the things that I thought I would quite like to do, I have zero interest in doing right now".

"I feel good. If I am not feeling good, I will not be here", Nadal told reporters two days before the start of the first Grand Slam of the year. I am happy with it.

'Being honest, I am not in the council anymore, and at the same time, nobody from the council side came to me and asked me my opinion, ' he said after his first-round win over James Duckworth. I've always been focused on tactics and winning and finding a way.' As for what comes next, Murray is considering having surgery to resurface his hip. It's going to be uncomfortable.
