Ronna Romney McDaniel defends Trump after uncle Mitt's op-ed

One possible voice of dissent could come from Utah Sen. -elect Mitt Romney.

Here's the bottom line: Mitt Romney has never sat behind the resolute desk in the Oval Office and he never will, but he needs to get over it and start representing the people of Utah by solving problems alongside President Trump.

President Donald Trump took to Twitter to blast incoming Utah Sen.

Trump repeated this theme later during a cabinet meeting, saying he wished Romney could be more of a "team player".

During an appearance on Fox News early Wednesday, David Bossie, a senior Trump campaign aide in 2016, said he feared that Romney was positioning himself to be a potent Trump critic in the Senate. He also said that Romney, like "a lot of these NeverTrumpers", disliked President Ronald Reagan as well, pointing to Romney's past positions criticizing Reagan. "For an incoming Republican freshman senator to attack @realDonaldTrump as their first act feeds into what the Democrats and media want and is disappointing and unproductive".

"I endorsed him and he thanked me profusely", Trump said. Question will be, is he a Flake? Among several topics, Tapper confronted Romney about his previous acceptance of Trump endorsements. (Romney did, however, get a larger percentage of the national popular vote in 2012, at 47.2 percent, than Trump did in 2016, with 46.1 percent.) Paul wrote off Romney in general as standing for a sort of "establishment big government Republicanism" that is "not popular enough to win a general election". "He should be happy for all Republicans", the president wrote.

Romney pointed out the weight of global respect for a USA under Trump has been falling quickly and with it a cost in allies and authority that accompanies reliable leadership.

According to Romney, the Trump presidency fell to new lows in December, hit as it was by losses of experience in Defence Secretary Jim Mattis and White House Chief of Staff John F.Kelly. Asked if Romney's opinions on Trump are a minority in the GOP Senate conference, Paul said they are. "But I know what my principles are, what I think is right for the country", Romney said.

"With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indispensable", Romney wrote in the op-ed piece in The Washington Post on Tuesday.

In a letter Tuesday night to the other 167 committee members, Jevon O.A. Williams warned that Romney could use "loopholes" in the nominating process to challenge Trump, the Daily Mail of London reported. "And they want to see leaders who can unite us and push through those things". In a June 2016 interview with Newsmax, he said he was open to backing Trump but was uncertain about where Trump stood.

"Accordingly", he said, "I am asking for your support to take the unprecedented step of amending the rules to close loopholes in the re-nomination campaign, including Rule 40", he said.

"Jealously is a drink best served warm and Romney just proved it".

Rounds said his job is to make things better and "that doesn't mean I have to be out there in front fighting with someone".
