Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Man Utd interim boss says he'll 'use the hairdryer'

Lukaku has missed training recently for personal reasons, while Alexis Sanchez is now recovering in Chile from a torn hamstring.

The Portuguese has been replaced by United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has vowed to reunite the players who had grown increasingly unhappy and frustrated by Mourinho's methods.

Sanchez was one of a number of stars who had fallen out with Mourinho by the end but he strenuously denied he had a bet with team-mate Marcos Rojo about his sacking. "With Mourinho, the players have thrown him under the bus".

"I only have gratitude for him".

'We are a truly United team.

Mourinho brought Sánchez to Old Trafford as part of a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

ESPN report that David de Gea is edging ever closer to signing a new long-term contract at Old Trafford and his commitment is unaffected by Jose Mourinho's departure.

The 45-year-old Norwegian has had his first press conference in his new role and United fans would have loved every minute of it.

"He's said he's a changed man, he's grown up, and he's been in the managerial department for some time and that he knows sometimes you need to have an iron fist when addressing the players".

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer further said the balance of power in modern football has not shifted too far in the players' direction. You go out there and express your skills.

He said: "I think the players obviously get away with murder".

"That period at Cardiff [City] was a huge step for me".

Lawrenson added: "I can guarantee you that in United's training sessions this week, everything will have been really sharp and I would expect them to translate that into a convincing performance". I made a few mistakes, but If you don't make mistakes, you're not going to learn. You treat players how you treat your kids.

"He's [Sir Alex Ferguson] influenced me with everything".

Solskjaer's first game in charge will be at his former club Cardiff although he appears likely to be without forward Romelu Lukaku, who has been absent from the club this week, attending to a personal matter.
