Van Bommel: We will go for the win against Barcelona

Barcelona defender Nelson Semedo, left, runs to congratulate Barcelona forward Lionel Messi who scored his side's first goal during a Group B Champions League soccer match between PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona at the Philips stadium in Eindhoven, Netherlands, Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018.

Messi is now leading the way with six goals this season in the Champions League, amazingly averaging a goal every 45 minutes.

He then assisted the club's second, finding Gerard Pique on a free kick to double the Spanish side's advantage and all but seal the top spot in their Champions League group.

But Barcelona will have to raise its game if it is to win back the Champions League trophy that was won by archrival Real Madrid for the last three seasons.

The former Spain manager also expressed delight at how open La Liga is at the moment: "It's good that Sevilla are the leaders and that LaLiga is equal because it means other teams have more possibilities".

The Barca head coach said: 'We're so happy to have mathematically topped the group.

PSV unlucky not to go into the break at least one goal in front after twice hitting the frame of the goal.

Luuk De Jong grabbed a consolation for the home side eight minutes from time but they remain on a single point from their five group games to date. De Jong is hard to defend against and we suffered.

It was Barcelona that made the breakthrough in the 61st minute though, with Messi working a yard of space inside the PSV box before finding the back of the net with a near-post finish.

Both Barcelona and Juventus have booked their spot in the Champions League knockout round ahead of Match Day 6.

Barcelona was without the injured Luis Suarez, with Ousmane Dembele taking his place.

Messi's goal came in the second half, as the Argentinian star weaved his way through the PSV defense before firing a shot and finding the top corner to give Barcelona the lead.

Zoet had to keep out a powerful Messi strike early in the second period as Barcelona started on the front foot.
