In a new update to the app this week though, Google has added support for Siri shortcuts, meaning if you really, REALLY have had enough of Siri, you can pretty much punt her from your life forever and nestle into the warm, glowing, warming glow of Google Assistant forever.
Hey Siri, how do I make you suck less? Now, the latest news confirms that Google has made it easier to the Apple users to access the Google Assistant via Siri Shortcuts.
The Google Home smart speaker can now be had for just $79 in this great Black Friday deal that saves you $50 off the sticker price.
In the U.S. you can also get bundles like a free Google Home Hub with each Pixel 3 phone, but after all Black Friday originates in the United States and it is a bigger deal there than anywhere else in the world. This means that through the simplified If This Then That (IFTTT)-like app, you're able to record phrases like "Okay, Google", which then cause the Assistant app to open and listen to your command each time you prompt Siri, Apple's voice-activated assistant.
The update allows you to launch Google Asistant on an iOS device by saying "Hey Siri, OK Google". You'll need to record a trigger phrase - such as "Ok Google" - since it's apparently unable to pull in a pre-existing voice command you may have already set up on another Assistant-powered device. If you used the same name for your Shortcut, you could simply say, "Hey Siri, going to bed", which will call on the Assistant Routine and perform the action.
Google Assistant supports far more smart home devices and has integration with other services when compared to Siri so this shortcut is definitely going to be useful for many.
You can even use it to activate a smart home routine in Google Assistant, where multiple commands are executed at once. When you open the Assistant app post-update you should see the option to register it to Siri Shortcuts.
