The multi-state Mega Million jackpot now stands at $970 million.

And the current Powerball jackpot continues to grow, too: Nobody won Wednesday's drawing, so on Saturday, the jackpot will be worth an estimated $430 million.

The previous record for the Mega Millions jackpot was $656 million in March, 2012.

Lottery players will have slightly better odds of winning just one of the jackpots.

"Since these changes, three of the six largest Mega Millions jackpots have been paid out", he says.

Mega Millions tickets cost $2 and up, and there are nine different ways to win cash prizes that range from $2 all the way up to the jackpot. The next drawing is Friday.

The jackpot has steadily gone up since it was last won July 24. "Instead of spending $200 a year on lottery tickets, maybe we could encourage people to say, 'OK, why not spend 10 or 20 bucks a year?'" she said.

The previous record for the game's top prize was $656 million, split among three winners in 2012, while the largest jackpot in US history was a $1.5 billion Powerball haul in 2016. Make copies of all the tickets and pass them out.

The next Powerball drawing is at 11 p.m. EST Saturday. For perspective, players are more than 25,000 times more likely to shoot a hole-in-one on the golf course. In Arizona, people who win more than $600 can keep their names secret for 90 days after claiming prizes, but after that names are public record. Odds are based on the amount of numbers you can choose and the number of combinations available.

One person did receive a $1.9 million prize Tuesday for guessing five of the six total numbers correctly at a Safeway grocery store in San Francisco. Prizes can range from $2 to $5 million depending on the game and type of ticket. When the jackpots flirt with the half-billion-dollar mark, state lotteries don't even feel the need to advertise, he said.
