Turkey denies giving 'any kind of audio tape' on Khashoggi to US

On Friday, ABC News reported that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had allegedly heard an audio recording of Khashoggi's murder inside the Saudi consulate.

President Trump acknowledged yesterday that US -based journalist Jamal Khashoggi is likely dead and threatened "very severe" consequences if Saudi Arabia is found to be responsible.

The Foreign Minister of the Netherlands, Stef Blok, said he was pulling out because "the disappearance of Khashoggi is a very serious matter".

President Donald Trump is reluctant to call out the Saudis and has cited their denials and said he doesn't want to jeopardise the sale of military equipment worth over $1 billion.

Officials from some of Saudi Arabia's leading Western allies joined a slew of corporate bigwigs who are now shunning next week's gathering, touted as a high-powered showcase for the economic reforms of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Turkish authorities say they have evidence he tortured, killed and dismembered at the consulate on orders of the Saudi government. People close to the White House have already been briefed and given General Assiri's name.

Turkish officials say Khashoggi was murdered in the Saudi consulate and on Thursday they reportedly expanded their search for his body to a large forest just outside Istanbul.

Officials from the board of cash-strapped state-owned enterprise Denel are anxious that behind-the-scenes lobbying and media pressure is pushing it into a deal with Saudi Arabia, without proper procedures being followed, the Mail & Guardian reported.

But he did express confidence in intelligence reports that suggest a high-level Saudi role in the suspected killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. "But we're waiting for the results of about three different investigations, and we should be able to get to the bottom fairly soon", Trump said.

In Istanbul, Turkish investigators for a second time searched the Saudi consulate, where Khashoggi vanished, in a hunt for clues. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Mr Pompeo that his government is conducting its own investigation of what happened to Mr Khashoggi after he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to retrieve a document for his upcoming wedding.

Reports have been circulating for days that the Turkish government has audio recordings of Khashoggi being interrogated and murdered in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. "They spend $40 million, $50 million", he said at a rally in Mobile, Alabama, in August 2015. "I mean it's bad, bad stuff, but we'll see what happens".

He also dismissed media reports that Turkey has shared audio recordings from Khashoggi's disappearance with U.S. officials, saying Turkey did not give anyone or any country the recording. The prince is next in line for the throne held by his aged father King Salman.
