Preteen girls wanted to kill classmates in Satanic plot, Florida police say

Two middle school girls from Bartow, Florida, were arrested on Tuesday in connection to a "plot to harm other students", authorities said.

The Bartow, Florida, police department said that an 11-year-old girl and 12-year-old girl were discovered hiding in the bathroom of Bartow Middle School on Tuesday, armed with various knives.

Officers said a student heard the girls planning the attack.

Upon killing each victim, the report says, they meant to stack her or him in a bathroom stall and wait for the next small student to enter the bathroom.

Bartow Middle School administrators "saved" the school from the girls' weird scheme when the duo's absence from class triggered a search. The child's mom told school staff that they must be mistaken, setting off a campus search. The assistant principal walked in after one of the two had been reported missing from class.

Afterwards, the girls would leave the body parts at the school's entrance before killing themselves, they said.

Both girls were charged with conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a weapon on school property.

In an interview with officers, the girls said they wanted to kill at least 15 people.

Additional police were already on campus because a student had notified a teacher of a rumored threat to students.

A Bartow Middle School student got wind of the alleged impending attack and spoke up.

Officials conducted a more thorough search and found the girls had several more knives, including a butcher knife.

They told investigators they're practicing Satan worshippers and planned to commit suicide after the attack in hopes it would bring them closer to Satan. They planned to cut the children's throats, slice up their bodies, and eat their flesh, washing the raw meat down with the victims' blood.

Detectives said the girls devised the plot while watching "scary" movies at one of their houses over the weekend.

Bartow Chief of Police Joe Hall called the plot "horrific" in a statement posted to social media by Polk County Public Schools. Ordered to empty their pockets, the 11-year-old pulled out a knife and a knife sharpener, the affidavit said, while the 12-year-old produced three knives and a pizza cutter.

Superintendent Jacqueline Byrd said school staff responded quickly to reports of suspicious behaviour.
