Trump 'fell in LOVE' with Kim Jong-un as they wrote letters

Three senior U.S. officials involved in North Korea policy said last week that no progress has been made in moving towards serious negotiations on eliminating or even halting Mr Kim's nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programmes.

"Without any trust in the USA, there will be no confidence in our national security, and under such circumstances there is no way we will unilaterally disarm ourselves first", Ri Yong Ho told the U.N. General Assembly.

"Without any trust in the United States, there will be no confidence in our national security and under such circumstances, there is no way we will unilaterally disarm ourselves first".

He noted that Kim is interested in a second meeting after their initial meeting in Singapore in June was hailed by Trump as a big step toward denuclearization of North Korea.

President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un met at a landmark summit in June, which saw Mr Kim pledge to work towards nuclear disarmament.

This was decidedly so during an exchange of threats between Washington and Pyongyang that accompanied a run of increasingly powerful weapons tests a year ago that put the North on the brink of its claim to be a full-fledged nuclear power, and had some fearing war.

He said the United States is instead maintaining sanctions to keep up the pressure on the regime.

Ri Yong ho made the remarks during the annual gathering of the United Nations in New York City.

"If the party to this issue of denuclearization were South Korea and not the US the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula would not have come to such a deadlock", Ri added.

"I was really being tough - and so was he".

Trump said at the Saturday night rally in West Virginia: "He wrote me attractive letters and they're great letters".

Trump said Kim sent him "beautiful letters" which brought his guard down during the lengthy peace process.

Mr Trump was likely referring to the letters he received from Mr Kim that his White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders described at the time as "a very warm, very positive letter." "And then we fell in love".

'The missiles and rockets are no longer flying in every direction, nuclear testing has stopped, some military facilities are already being dismantled, ' Trump said.

China and Russian Federation argued that the UN Security Council should reward Pyongyang for steps taken.

'The sanctions will stay in place until denuclearization occurs'. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo seems to be on the verge of restarting deadlocked nuclear diplomacy more than three months after the Singapore with North Korea's Kim Jong Un.

Last year, the Security Council unanimously adopted multiple sanctions resolutions in response to North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile tests to choke off sources of revenue for the regime.

Mr Trump took a much more optimistic view in his rally speech.
