LaLiga: Real Madrid boss, Lopetegi finally speaks on Ronaldo's move to Juventus

The award was first introduced as the FIFA World player of the year prize (1991-2009), before becoming the Ballon d'Or (2010-15) and subsequently part of FIFA's "The Best" awards. But who will it be?

Asked about who he thinks should win FIFA's The Best, which is between Ronaldo, Salah and Modric, he responded: "I would give it to our player, Modric, I'm clear about that".

Barcelona star Lionel Messi admits he was shocked by Cristiano Ronaldo's move from Real Madrid to Juventus and now expects the Italian giants to be big favourites for the Champions League.

The winners will be announced on 24 September at Royal Festival Hall in London.

Ronaldo's move to Juventus has not been well-received by Real Madrid fans, particularly given the club's failure to land a replacement.

His competitors, Ronaldo and Modric, won the Champions league together with Real Madrid.

Egypt forward Salah scored 44 goals as Liverpool reached the Champions League final, losing to Real.

Lionel Messi also makes the cut for his strike for Argentina against Nigeria, while Portugal winger Ricardo Quaresma rounds out the Russian Federation 2018 nominees with his goal against Iran.

"They're also a team that never give up". Luka Modric and Mohamed Salah are also in contention.

"We have done okay but it is only the start and we have three weeks ahead with the Champions League".

France's World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris is in contention for the goalkeeper of the year award, alongside Golden Glove victor Thibaut Courtois of Belgium and Denmark's Kasper Schmeichel.

France may not have any runners for the best player award but two Frenchmen lead the finalists for the best coach as World Cup-winning manager Didier Deschamps and former Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane are joined by Croatia's Zlatko Dalic.
