Jürgen Klopp gives update on Danny Ings’ possible Liverpool departure

Jurgen Klopp started his first-choice front three ahead of Sunday's top-flight opener against West Ham United and last-season's 44-goal hero Mohamed Salah was close to latching onto Trent Alexander-Arnold's seventh-minute cross.

Loris Karius was a figure of fun for the majority the summer having made two horrendous mistakes in the Champions League final, which gave the European Cup to Real Madrid for the third consecutive season.

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson is backing new signing Alisson to showcase his skills not only as a goalkeeper but as a playmaker at Anfield.

They finished fourth in last season's table though did reach the final of the Champions League.

He was clearly moved by this emotional gesture on the pitch and tweeted afterwards: "Thank you Anfield for this reception!".

"Of course, when managers spend big they have to deliver success and in Jurgen Klopp's case, that means a first trophy since he took charge of the Reds in October 2015".

Liverpool have spent heavily this summer, however, splashing out almost £180 million on four new players, and Jürgen Klopp now seems to have built a group of players who are more than capable of winning major honours.

Asked about Ings, Klopp told Liverpool's official website: "It's all open, what can I say?"

"I loved it, to be honest. Their Achilles heel for me will be against the lesser teams and if they can break them down but I'm all over Liverpool, I think they're the team who will come second". Is it possible being different in a really hard world? I don't know. I'm happy about the game tonight and about what we did, the whole atmosphere.

There had been wholesale changes - including Loris Karius replacing Alisson on the latter's maiden Anfield appearance - and two substitutes combined to make sure of victory.
