England v India: second Test, day two

Latest updates: Still some serious movement on offer for the bowlers as Broad seams it around.

The clear blue of Wednesday turned into a bleak grey on Thursday morning and what started off as a light drizzle turned into a strong shower later in the afternoon to pour cold water on whatever chances there were of the second Test match between India and England starting off. The first day of the Lord's Test was a washout, and it gives me precisely 0.00 per cent pleasure to tell you today's forecast isn't much better.

The match had been due to start at 11:00am local time (1000 GMT) but with rain still falling and the skies above Lord's increasingly dark, the umpires called it a day at 4:50pm (1550 GMT).

England skipper Joe Root had earlier announced a 12-man squad for Lord's Test.

Chris Woakes is expected to replace all-rounder Ben Stokes, who is standing trial in Bristol on a charge of affray.

Hosts England lead the five-match series after their 31-run victory in the gripping first Test at Birmingham. The former India star is the leading Test and ODI run-scorer of all time, and is widely regarded as one of the game's greatest-ever batsmen.

The big question for India will be if they will play two spinners, after having played R Ashwin as the lone spinner in the opening Test.
