‘Cowboy Ninja Viking’ Movie Stopped In Its Tracks By Universal

Chris Pratt's new film Cowboy Ninja Viking has been pulled from its scheduled release date.

With the film meant to get underway in September, it's hard to speculate what exactly has caused the production delay and the loss of release date, and what else about it needs to be developed.

The American cowboy, the ninja, and the Viking form a triumvirate of toughness seldom equaled in world-to say nothing of pop culture-history.

Cowboy Ninja Viking tells the story of Duncan, a man who suffers from multiple personality disorder before he's made into a "triplet" after participating in a top-secret government program that creates deadly super soldiers. The movie has gone through several drafts, including an original draft from 'Deadpool" writers Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick, with the most recent draft by "Rampage" scribe Ryan Engle and "Wrath Of The Titans' writer Dan Mazeau - so it's clear that they're content not to rush it simply to make a release date. It was being speculated that if the wedding with beau Nick Jonas is not the reason then Priyanka Chopra opted out of Salman Khan's Bharat and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kothewali, it must be Pratt's film.

Acclaimed director Michelle MacLaren, who is known for her stellar work on such classic TV shows as Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, is helming the project. She recently directed HBO's The Deuce pilot episode. Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner and Mark Gordon are attached to produce.

James Gunn was sacked over a serious of abhorrent tweets, and though Pratt and his cast mates have lobbied Disney to hire their boss back, it doesn't look likely. In the meantime, we have Avengers 4 to look forward too, which will find Chris Pratt reprising his role as Star-Lord for a forth time.

Cowboy Ninja Viking was originally slated set to hit theaters on June 28, 2019. This news comes from Universal Pictures.
