Cibulkova questions Serena's preferential Wimbledon seeding

"Since [her daughter Alexis Olympia] was born, I haven't been apart from her for more than a day", Williams said, adding that she wakes up at either 2 a.m. or 4 feed her child.

As announced this week, Williams will enter the 2018 Wimbledon draw as the No. 25 seed, a special consideration that organizers applied to her standing as a seven-time singles champ at SW19. Wimbledon usually follows the latest rankings but can make a change if "necessary to produce a balanced draw".

"Unfortunately, in the '90s they changed the rule whereas if you were injured [and] then you come back, you lose your seeding", she said.

"They never took into account women that left No. 1", Williams told an audience at a charity event with Allstate Foundation Purple Purse.

Despite her eagerness to expand her brood, Williams remains dedicated to her sport, even when it gets hard physically. I think that's good. "And by the time the quarter-finals came, I was like, 'I know I can beat this girl, ' and at the semi-finals I thought, 'I know I can win this match.' I didn't think I would win the final, so when I won, it was like, 'OK, this is insane'".

She also wants you to know, in both cover stories, that she relished being pregnant. "Having won so many Grand Slams and being number one for so many years, she deserves a seeding". "John McEnroe, who is on the seeding committee, was among the fellow tennis legends who spoke out in Williams" favor before the ruling.

"It's a really tough one because I'd say Serena is the exception". "Why in the world would they want to play her in the first, second, third round?"

Last weekend, U.S. Open President and CEO Katrina Adams said that it would definitely seed Williams for the season's final major, acknowledging that the formula for doing so had yet to be determined. Not everyone was in support of giving Williams a better seed, however.

New mother Williams, who is only ranked 183rd in the world, secured the 25th seeding ahead of Cibulkova who is ranked 32nd. "For her, specifically, yeah, I'd seed Serena". Just casually chatting. I was getting hot when he was talking about it all [laughs]. Williams welcomed her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., with husband Alexis Ohanian in September.
